Help & getting started

Quick guides and resources to get the most out of Maggie.

First steps

  • Log in to your dashboard and complete your profile in Settings.
  • Add your first client (Clients → New client).
  • Create a case and assign it to a lawyer.
  • Use Documents to upload or generate forms; the AI can help review them.
  • Invite clients to the portal so they can see their case and pay invoices.

By practice type

Maggie includes templates and workflows for:

  • Immigration (USCIS forms, client intake, deadlines)
  • Family law (case timeline, documents, billing)
  • Corporate (entities, contracts, time entries)
  • Criminal defense (discovery, witnesses, calendar)
  • Notary offices (auto-fill forms, Texas compliance, client portal)

AI assistant

The Maggie AI chat can answer questions about your clients, cases, and tasks in natural language. It runs on your server (Ollama) so your data stays in your control. You can ask things like “Which cases have overdue tasks?” or “Summarize client X.”

Backups & reliability

We recommend that you back up your database and uploaded documents regularly. For self-hosted deployments, configure your own backup schedule (e.g. daily PostgreSQL dumps and file storage backups). Maggie is designed to run reliably with standard hosting; check Status if you experience issues.
